The Leadership of Capital Group Under New Chairman

Dec 30, 2016 |

It was announced on July 15th, 2015 that Timothy Armour would be the new chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Capital Group. As of the end of 2016, Mr. Armour has 33 years of investment experience, all of it with Capital Group.

Timothy Armour earned his Bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College in Vermont, studying Economics, and he’s put that education to use at the Capital Group money management firm ever since his graduation in 1982.

Tim Armour first worked with Capital through the Associate’s Program where he got his foot in the door. At the beginning of his career at the Capital Group, he was an equity investment analyst. In this role, he worked with service companies in the United States as well as global telecommunications businesses. From there, he worked his way up the ranks to the top leadership spot at one of the largest money management firms in the country. He took over the position after his predecessor, James Rothenberg, passed away suddenly, and quite unfortunately, from a heart attack.

Mr. Timothy Armour is an equity portfolio manager that also served – and continues to serve – in several key roles within the firm. He is chairman of the Management Committee at the Capital Group Companies. He is also the chairman and the Principal Executive Officer of Capital Research and Management Company, Inc. And now, he also leads the company from the top spot as chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Capital Group.

Timothy Armour works out of the Capital Group’s headquarters in Los Angeles. He defends the tendency of the investors that use the Capital Group to stock pile their resources, saying that their firm’s goal is to get their clients “better results over time.” As of the time of the announcement of his promotion to the top spot at the Capital Group, the firm’s assets totaled near $146 billion.
